World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference initiated a four-day activity in Taitung, Taiwan. The chairman of Public Television Service (PTS), Mr. Tong-liao Cheng and Taitung County Mayor Huang Chien-ting hosted a welcome dinner reception at Cheilulan Recreation Park.
The reception started at 6:30 pm, serving Austronesian style food. County Mayor Huang and his wife wore aboriginal attires to welcome all guests. Government officials such as Council of Indigenous Peoples Minister Paelabang Danapan, Taitung County Council Speaker Yao and Deputy Speaker Chen, Councilman Lamooro , National Museum of Prehistory Curator Tong and Gagun Band made the night a memorable start.
County Mayor Huang spoke in English welcoming CEO friends of indigenous TVs from nine nations such as News Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa…,etc. According to Australian scholar Bell Wood, there are approximately 290,000,000 people living in Austronesian areas, based on analysis on bloods and languages, Taiwan may possibly the birthplace of Austronesian. Since Taitung has the most aboriginal population, thus Taitung is the home of Austronesian.
WITBC will have hundreds of overseas friends, foreign press, scholars and domestic reporters joining the four-day conference and appreciate the beauty of Taitung. The Conference will have receptions, opening ceremony, blessing ceremony, presentations, panel discussions, forums and film festival.
